Park Programs

The Division of Interpretation at Big Bend National Park offers a host of Park programs that are free to the visiting public.

Topics include area geology, natural and cultural history, plant and animal life, and others. These programs take place throughout the day and throughout the Park. Amphitheaters at the Chisos Basin and Rio Grande Village provide opportunities for evening programs. In addition, many programs included guided walks (of varying difficulty), birdwatching opportunities, and hands-on educational programs.

There are staffed Visitor's Centers at Persimmon Gap (North Entrance), Panther Junction (Park Headquarters), Rio Grande Village, the Chison Basin and Castolon. There is no Visitor Center at the Maverick Mountain Entrance Station (West Entrance). Note: The Rio Grande Village Visitor Center and the Castolon Visitor Center are closed during the summer months.

In addition to free interpretive programs offered by the Park, there are opportunities to purchase guided tours from Park Rangers. Guided tours require advance reservations at 432-477-1108.
