Big Bend National Park, and the surrounding area, is a large and remote place. Please carefully note the following fuel stops. This is a comprehensive list of all fuel stops in the area. In addition to fuel, it is recommended that all travelers in far west Texas travel with extra water.
Fuel Availability Outside of Big Bend National Park:
■ Alpine (80 miles from Study Butte; 100 miles from Panther Junction)
■ Marathon (95 miles from Study Butte; 70 miles from Panther Junction)
■ Stillwell Store (65 miles from Study Butte; 40 miles from Panther Junction)
■ Study Butte Chevron and Study Butte Store (in Study Butte; 25 miles from Panther Junction)
Fuel Availability Within Big Bend National Park:
■ Panther Junction (100 miles from Alpine; 70 miles from Marathon; 25 miles from Study Butte)
■ Rio Grande Village (20 miles from Panther Junction)
Motorcycle Maintenance/Repair:
There is only one motorcycle mechanic shop in the area. Cycletek is located at Gate 5 off of Hwy. 118 in Terlingua, TX. Owner Ralph Delmar can be reached by phone at 432-371-2560.
Local Medical Services:
Terlingua, Texas has an emergency medical response team for local emergencies. However, there are no local physicians and the closest full-service medical center is in Alpine, TX. Some emergencies may require transport to a hospital in the Midland-Odessa area. There is a fully operational 911 system. However, while Study Butte and Terlingua generally have reliable cellular phone service, many areas of the Park do not.
Banking:
There is one bank in Terlingua, the Quicksilver branch of the West Texas National Bank, located at the junction of Hwy. 118 and Hwy. 170. It has an ATM, as do numerous other businesses in the Terlingua area. However, these ATM's store a limited amount of cash and frequently do run out on big events weekends.
